Hi, I’m Elle swales.
I’m a compassionate and supportive therapist, dedicated to helping you navigate life’s challenges. As an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I offer online counselling for adults across the UK, and in person sessions for adults in York, providing a safe and understanding space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered to create positive change.
Who i Am
-
As an integrative practitioner, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches - including the Person-Centred approach, CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Somatic Therapy and Attachment Theory - to tailor therapy to your unique needs. I aim to provide a calm, confidential, and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace and work towards meaningful personal growth.
⸻
I offer a gentle, collaborative approach, where you are at the centre of the process. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening for you in a safe, non-judgemental space. I won’t offer quick fixes, but will support you in making sense of your experiences and finding clarity, confidence, and balance.
⸻
As a registered member of the BACP, I’m committed to working ethically and ensuring your wellbeing remains at the heart of the counselling process.

Sessions can be held online, face-to-face (including Walk and Talk Therapy) from central York. Each session lasts an hour, unless we agree otherwise. Our work together is confidential and offers a safe, private space where you can talk openly and feel truly heard, supported, and empowered to create positive change.
-
I have been working as a counsellor for over five years, supporting people from all walks of life. I currently work as a therapist in a University and have also gained valuable experience working in primary care, a local charity and in a NHS staff counselling service. This has given me insight into a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, trauma, low mood, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, and loss.
-
I believe that therapy should be a supportive and accessible investment in your wellbeing. Sessions are offered in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment, tailored to your individual needs.

I am also a qualified Yoga and Pilates teacher, which deeply informs my understanding of the mind–body connection. Our emotional experiences are often reflected in the body - through tension, posture, breathing, or physical sensations - and recognising these links can offer valuable insight and support self-awareness. While counselling focuses on talking therapy, my background allows me to integrate gentle somatic awareness into our work when appropriate, helping you tune into your body’s signals, manage stress, and develop grounding and self-care practices that nurture wellbeing in both body and mind.
HOW I WORK
ONLINE
Access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Online sessions offer flexibility and convenience, allowing you to receive support wherever you are while maintaining the same confidential and therapeutic environment.
IN PERSON
Meet face-to-face in a calm, welcoming and confidential space. In-person therapy provides a dedicated space away from everyday distractions, allowing us to focus fully on your needs and therapeutic goals.
WALK AND TALK
Walk and talk therapy combines the benefits of counselling with the restorative effects of being outdoors. Sessions take place while walking at a comfortable pace in a suitable outdoor location, offering an alternative to the traditional therapy room that many people find relaxing and grounding.
